The 1962 Season
Mala Powers and Charles Braswell were the leads for the first five plays, and Gene Raymond and Jan Clayton were the leads for the last five plays.
Mala Powers was Roxanne opposite Jose Ferrer in the movie version of Cyrano de Bergerac and was making her debut in summer stock this season at Elitch. Charles Braswell was featured the past season as the purser in the Bonard Productions presentation of Noel Coward’s Sail Away, which ran more than 100 performances on Broadway.
In an interview with Larry Tajiri, the drama editor for the Denver Post, Mala Powers said, “I don’t know when I’ve worked as hard, but I’m having a delightful time at Elitch. I’ve done radio, television and motion pictures, but the stage is my favorite medium. Nothing can substitute for a live audience.” In comparing those mediums, Tajiri noted that, “there are scripts to hold and read on radio, idiot cards in television and short takes in films. The theater is the only one of the acting mediums which demands total knowledge of a script at one time.”
