Veronica Cartwright appeared at the Elitch Theatre in 1981, in Talley’s Folly, opposite Judd Hirsch. Some of her most-notable roles were in The Birds, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Right Stuff, and Alien. (Also, Jack’s Mom in Will & Grace!)
Talley’s Folly, the opening play of the season, is a two-character play that starred Judd Hirsch and Veronica Cartwright. The play is part of a trilogy of plays about the Talleys, a wealthy Lebanon, Missouri family, owners of the local garment mill. Lanford Wilson, the playwright, wrote Talley’s Folly with Judd Hirsch in mind. The Fifth of July (1978) was the first play of the trilogy. It ran for 158 performances at the Circle Theatre off-Broadway. A Tale Told (1981) was the last play of the trilogy, and not as popular. Hirsch was in the off-Broadway production of Talley’s Folly in 1979, and he played the principal role when it moved to Broadway in 1980. At Elitch, Hirsch directed and starred in the play.
