GARY SANDY (Harry) was born in Dayton, Ohio, and attended Willmington College in that state before going on to study at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York. His first professional role was a part created for him on the daytime serial As the World Turns. He then starred in Another World and Secret Storm. Mr. Sandy has appeared professionally in over forty plays. His off-Broadway work includes The Children’s Mass produced by Sal Mineo. His Broadway debut was in Saturday, Sunday, and Monday directed by Franco Zeffirelli. In Chicago he starred in the musical adaptation of Come Back, Little Sheba called Sheba, and in Connecticut, at the Goodspeed Opera House, he starred in Cowboy.
Mr. Sandy was a regular on Norman Lear’s TV series All That Glitters, and may be seen as Andy Travis in the popular series WKRP in Cincinnati. Other television credits include the TV movies Melvin Purvis, The Kansas City Massacre, The Shell Game, and For Lovers Only. He has guest starred in many television series including Starsky and Hutch, Harry-O, and Chips.
In other appearances, he starred opposite Henry Fonda in the film Last of the Cowboys, and also appeared in Hail to the Chief. For six months he played the role of the Pirate King in the Broadway production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s Pirates of Penzance.
Last summer Mr. Sandy completed a ten-city tour in the title role of the musical Barnum, and later appeared as Chance Wayne in Tennessee Williams’ Sweet Bird of Youth. He most recently starred in The Fantasticks at the Santa Barbara Theatre Festival.
