William Shatner appeared at the Elitch Theatre in the summer of 1980 in a production of Deathtrap.
William Shatner was well-known for his role as Captain Kirk in the television series, Star Trek, when he reported to Elitch for the 1980 season. He appeared in Ira Levin’s comedy/thriller Deathtrap, performing the role of Sidney Bruhl, the mystery writer suffering from a dry spell. At the time of the Elitch performance, William Shatner had three daughters, one of whom was in her senior year at the
University of Colorado.On July 16, 1980, the Elitch management held a Star Trek costume contest, and William Shatner appeared as Captain Kirk to judge the finalists of the contest.

- In a 1958 Hallmark Hall of Fame live television production entitled The Christmas Tree, he appeared with two other actors who would also later become Elitch Theatre alumni: Bernadette Peters and Cyril Ritchard!
- In 1961 he stared on Broadway with Elitch Theatre alumna, Julie Harris, in A Shot in the Dark.
- 1964 played a supporting role in the Western feature film The Outrage, with Elitch Theatre alumni, Edward G. Robinson.
- 1964 saw Shatner cast in an episode of The Man from U.N.C.L.E. that featured Leonard Nimoy, later to be his co-star in Star Trek. PLUS, he appeared with Elitch Alumni, David McCallum.
