McGrath’s biography from the 1968 Elitch Theatre Program for The Desk Set:
PAUL MCGRATH (Abe Cutler)
Mr. McGrath’s distinguished career first gained momentum in 1931 when he won critical acclaim opposite Helen Hayes in The Good Fairy by Molnar. Since then he has had major roles in over a score of Broadway plays. Some of his favorites are Susan and God in which he scored a solid hit opposite Gertrude Lawrence; The Green Bay Tree, Pigeons and People, The Night of January 16th, Lady In The Dark, Tomorrow The World, Common Ground, Command Decision and The Big Knife.
In 1957 and 1958, Mr. McGrath and the late Evelyn Varden starred to great critical and public acclaim in the London hit, Roar Like A Dove. In television he can claim the longest career on record since he and Gertrude Lawrence did the very first telecast of a play in 1938. He has appeared subsequently on virtually all of the better dramatic programs; lately as the permanent chairman of the CBS series, The Witness; East Side, West Side; The Nurses, among others. Mr. Mc- Grath’s film credits include Kazan’s Face In the Crowd and Preminger’s Advise and Consent. He also managed a parallel career in radio and broadcasts numbered in the thousands. To mention only one of his regular shows, he was known to millions as the chilling host of Inner Sanctum.
Recently, he was co-starred with Van Heflin and Larry Gates in A Case of Libel.
Currently, Mr. McGrath can be seen as Dr. Keith on Love Is a Many Splendored Thing.
