In 1972 Adrienne Barbeau originated the role of Rizzo in the musical Grease and she received a Tony Award nomination and a Theater World Award.
Four years earlier Barbeau made her Broadway debut as a replacement for Hodel in the original run of Fiddler on the Roof. (Bette Midler was also in the show as her sister, Tzeitel, and Bea Arthur was Yente the matchmaker. Barbeau and Arthur would later co-star in the television show Maude.)
A year before Barbeau’s debut on Broadway, she appeared at the Historic Elitch Theatre in the musical-comedy, Half a Sixpence.
