Theatre Building Venue Rental

The theatre is available for corporate events, parties, concerts, memorial services, private film screenings, and more. Our venue is only open in the summer and rental fees vary depending on availability, day of the week, and type of event. Please review the information below and get in touch if you are interested.
  • Theatre Auditorium, Stage, and Patio

    The Historic Elitch Theatre seats 650 guests and we have a very large stage and back-stage area. For a production on the stage, or a corporate event in the auditorium, the rental does not include use of the stage by the full audience. For events on the stage or on the patio, such as a reception, an additional rental fee is charged.

  • Front Lawn

    The lawn in front of the theatre can be rented as well, but this rental includes a rental of the theatre restrooms. (There are no public restrooms in the area.)

  • Carousel Shell

    Since the Carousel is an open public space, rentals  are primarily reserved for nonprofit public events, but short private events (under one hour) may be considered. We try to keep the carousel open to the public most of the time. (Additionally, for rentals longer than one hour, renters must rent the theater restrooms or provide portable restrooms — there are no public restrooms and event attendees cannot use restrooms in nearby businesses.)

  • Corporate & Multi-Events (i.e. show and party)

    Excellent choice for corporate events, providing a unique and professional setting. (And renting Denver’s oldest theatre adds an element of history and community.) For arts productions, if you are looking for a venue for your production, plus additional time, the theatre offers a great option.

  • Weddings

    There are few spaces that can offer more history and legacy! The Historic Elitch Theatre, with its rich heritage dating back to 1891, provides a sense of legacy and tradition that will make your wedding truly unforgettable.

  • Nonprofit & Arts/Performance Events (only performance)

    We offer significantly-discounted rentals to support other nonprofits and community groups. We’d love to host your event at our beautiful theatre.

  • Community Access/Private Social Event

    We are excited to partner with community groups and neighbors to provide a beautiful space in Denver’s oldest cultural venue! These rentals are significantly discounted, and will be considered on a case-by-case basis. For non-profit groups, annual operating budget must be less-than $1M.

  • Mid-May thru Mid-October — the theatre has no heat, so we are not able to do winter rentals.
  • Auditorium = 650 seats
  • Stage Reception = 150  (seated) or 250 (standing)
  • Patio = 50 (seated) or up to 100 (standing)
  • In addition to 650 auditorium chairs, we have 50 chairs available on stage.
  • Several 6-foot and 8-foot rectangular tables, eight 4×4 patio tables, plus eight small round standing bar-height tables.
  • Movie screen and projector (in-house tech required at additional charge.)
  • Basic sound equipment (in-house tech required at additional charge.)
  • All nearby parking is free.
  • Parking lot behind the theatre (roughly 20 spaces)
  • Street parking near the theatre. (20+ spaces)
  • Multiple large parking lots nearby.
  • For larger groups, you may want to consider offering shuttle service from another parking location, or discounts for taxi/ride services.

The following are required for all rentals:

  • On-Site Staff

    All rentals will include a charge for an on-site contact who will open and close the venue for your rental. The contact person will be available for questions or any venue-related questions, but is not “staff” for the event — their responsibility is to monitor the venue and ensure that all terms of the contract are being followed.

  • Tech Staff

    For events using any HET tech (i.e. stage lighting, sound, movie projector & screen, etc.) renter will also have a Tech Staff fee to run the Tech. (Note: If renter has additional tech needs and will be hiring additional staff, an HET tech staff person will still be required.)

  • Cleaning Fee

    All rentals — including all of the types of rentals listed above — will be required to pay the cleaning fee (the rate depends on the spaces used and the size of the event) and cleaning fee is separate from the rental fee. 

  • Special Event Liability Insurance

    Event Liability Insurance is required for ALL rentals. (Event Insurance is very affordable and HET can provide a link to our preferred company.)

  • Deposit

    A deposit is required at the time of reservation to hold the requested date and time as well as cover any damage done to the facility during the rental time. Should there be no damage, the deposit will be returned within 30-days following the rental. Venue Rental contract will outline the terms of the refund of the deposit upon cancellation.

Event insurance is required for all rentals and the contract outlines the coverage terms.

You can get coverage through your own insurance company, or our insurance company offers a single-event policy and they will quote coverage with all of the correct coverage terms and they will distribute copies to all parties.

  • This is a summer-only venue with no HVAC — there is no A/C in the summer. We have an air circulation system and ceiling fans, but NO A/C.
  • Rental includes an on-site event contact to address any concerns during the event. (If tech is needed, in-house tech is required at an additional charge.)
  • Patio space is available on the north side of the building (with patio seating for 32.)
  • Site Decoration: Limited decorations are allowed but cannot be attached in any way that could damage surfaces and must be fully removed at the end of the event. (No glitter or confetti allowed!)
  • Upon Renter’s departure, rental space is expected to be in the same condition it was at the start of the rental.
  • The renter is required to remove all equipment from the premises by the end of the rental time. (If the Renter exceeds this allotted time, there will be an additional charge per hour.)
  • No dumpster or disposal service provided — renter shall remove all personal property and trash.
  • If alcohol is available, the Renter is responsible for obtaining an alcohol permit, and proof of permit must be submitted at least 30-days prior to the event.
  • Due to the historic age and nature of our venue, decorations, events, and hours of operations must be approved prior to the event and will be handled on a case-by-case basis. Any request that could damage the historic structures will be denied.
  • No smoking is allowed inside the building! Renter is responsible for enforcing this and renter will forfeit deposit — and event may be immediately cancelled —  if this rule is violated.
  • HET is committed to fostering an inclusive environment that upholds the values of equality and respect. As such, any form of hate speech or discriminatory conduct is strictly prohibited at our events and our venue. This includes, but is not limited to, speech or behavior that discriminates against individuals or groups based on race, skin color, creed, disability, national origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran’s status, family/parental status, or any other classification protected by law. Such conduct is inconsistent with our values and will not be tolerated. Violation of this policy may result in immediate termination of the event and forfeiture of any associated deposits or fees.
