Lea Penman, a member of the Elitch cast, was a Denver girl who had attended the University of Denver. It was there that she had appeared in her first hit as Rosalind in As You Like It. She enhanced her career and gained a professional reputation as a member of stock companies.

After the Wednesday matinee of her play, The Dove, Miss Penman sponsored a tea at the Orchard Café for her “Pi Beta Phi” sisters from the University of Denver and the University of Colorado. A cake was prepared by the chef of the Café as a surprise to Miss Penman. It was a long cake iced with “Lea” in the center and “Pi Beta Phi” traced in icing on it as well as a model of a dove, in compliment for her performance as Dolores in The Dove.
